Snow and Arrows

And so my bad relationship with the Small Place continues.
But.
I got to miss school for a day last week because of a SNOW DAY!
This was a first for me and my kids and we (well, Simon and I) LOVED it.
I gotta say… I love missing school because of snow. Ch-check it out (Or check out My Flikr:

Although I enjoyed the snow day, I really am not a fan of actual snow. Yeah, you can say it. I know I’m complicated and hard to please.

Now, back to my bad, bad relationship with the Small Place.
From now on, whenever I complain about the Small Place I am going to force myself to come up with something that I like about it. This section of the Diary will heretofore be called, “I Live In A Small Town and I HATE It… but I am trying really, really hard to like it even a little bit.
I know it’s a long title, but I could find no clever way to shorten it that still got my point across.
So, here we go.

**************

I Live In A Small Town and I HATE it…
but I am trying really, really hard to like it even a little bit.
Volume 1:

This town has a profusion of crappy “arrow” signs. I really don’t know what the technical name is for these things, so here’s a picture or two.

Ugly, ain’t they?

I could have posted about a hundred MILLION of these arrow sign pictures. Every business in town (alright, 90%) has one of these so that people will look their way. Not a bad idea, really… Except for when 90% of the business’ in town have one of these things pointing at their establishment the idea becomes pretty pointless because so. many. are being pointed at.
So what is my real issue with the arrow signs? Most, if not close to ALL, are BROKEN in some way. I have been associated with the Small Place for over seven years now and just this last weekend Tyson and I came across an arrow sign that actually worked properly and didn’t look all beat up. This was a first for both of us and Tyson has been around the Small Place a lot longer than I have.
So. To sum up, I hate the arrow sign because they are quite literally EVERY.WHERE and they look so downright JUNKY that it actually has been known to physically hurt my eyes to look upon them. I know this may seem like a lame gripe… but they bug me, plain and simple. They are seriously so ugly to look at. Just take a gander at those pictures again….

Now for what I like. (wait for it…)
I LOVE the local Mexican food restaurant. LOVE.love.love. Tyson and I have eaten there at least once a week since we moved here in the beginning of January. Oh. I get happy just thinking about their chips and salsa!
***************
Wasn’t that fun? Look for that subject again on Diary of the Nello… Heaven knows I’ve got LOTS to say about the Small Place.

Moving on…
This weekend Tyson and I are going to a friend’s wedding and are actually getting our first kid-free vacation since our New York trip in ‘06. Yeah. That would be almost THREE YEARS. And in order to make up for the long interval between our kidless vacations, we are staying at a luxury resort for the weekend! I think it goes without saying that I. Can’t. Wait. (But I’ll say it anyway cuz I CAN’T WAIT!)

So. I’ll be back next week to brag about my relaxing weekend.
(Unless, of course, something comes up between now and then that I just have to blog about…)

It is killing me. Where are you? I like “mysterious” as much as the next girl, but I do wish I knew where you were… I was asked last week (totally randomly) If I knew how you were these days. Enjoy your trip! I am so jealous!!
